10 college-themed shows to watch before Off Campus season two

We will always remember the year we all fell in love with this unlikely combo: ice hockey and steamy romance. First came Heated Rivalry, and Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander’s love-hate star-crossed lovers epic. Thank goodness too, because without it, we wouldn’t have had the summer of Connor Storie and Hudson Williams. 

Barely six months later, Off Campus arrived. It had some very attractive hockey players, including our new It-boy in Garrett, as portrayed by Belmont Cameli (and his curls). It had sex scenes so heartfelt they made us cry. And it had Hannah Wells, played deftly by Ella Bright. For a show that critics call corny—honestly, settle down—it was also surprisingly deep and deft in its handling of assault and abuse. For this cusp millennial, it brought back memories of the intensity and confusion and hugeness of life spent on a university campus. 

After we binged it in May, we’ve been waiting patiently for news telling us when season two will be released. There’s no date set yet, but given filming reportedly started in June, just like season one, we’re tentatively circling our calendars for a May 2027 drop. 

In the meantime, Glamour has not been twiddling its thumbs. We have been diving deep into as many college-themed shows as possible to try to capture that Off Campus-feeling before season two arrives. Here, we present our research to you. 

Overcompensating, Prime Video

In concept, Overcompensating is a mix of both Heated Rivalry and Off Campus. It follows Benny, a closeted jock, having his first of all the chaos, sex and partying that comes with college. Where it differs though is that it comes from the hilariously deranged mind of Benito Skinner. This one is more of a laugh fest than a true romance, but for the cringe parts of college, it’s basically a documentary. 

The Sex Lives of College Girls, HBO Max

From Mindy Kaling, The Sex Lives of College Girls is all about the cast. Reneé Rapp, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott and Pauline Chalamet—yeah, those Chalamets—make up the ensemble of four roommates at a college in Vermont. With three seasons under its belt, it’s an amazing binge watch. 

Tell Me Lies, Disney+

Tell Me Lies isn’t going to give you the warm and fuzzies, but it will hook you in. Starring Grace Van Patten, the show follows her character Lucy Albright and her boyfriend Stephen DeMarco, who meet at college and fall head over heels into what turns out to be an intoxicating and toxic relationship. If Off Campus is about the relationships you hope to find at college, Tell Me Lies is about what you want to avoid. 

Grown-ish, Disney+

A spin-off of beloved sitcom Black-ish, Grown-ish follows Yara Shahidi’s character from the original show, Zoey, as she goes to college. It’s a polished take on the college experience from the perspective of a fan favourite character. If you liked Black-ish and Off Campus, then get watching!

Felicity, Disney+

Felicity is an underrated gem. A little slept on when it came out in the late ’90s, it’s earned a cult following and rightfully so. Starring mother, Kerri Russell, before she became the icon she is today, the show follows Felicity after she follows her high school crush to college and falls into a truly tantalising love triangle. It’s also hilarious to watch knowing its creators, JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves, went on to make blockbuster Star Wars and Batman movies. 

Gen V, Prime Video

We’re staying true to the college theme, but this is probably the most different show to Off Campus on this list. A spin-off of The Boys’ superhero universe, Gen V is about a college where young people with superpowers go to compete to join the big leagues. It leans into traditional campus stereotypes, but be warned, Gen V has the same hyper violence that fans of The Boys love. It’s also got the charm. 

Sweet/Vicious, VOD

In this dark comedy, two college students take it on themselves to deliver justice to perpetrators of sexual assault. We’ll be honest, it’s not much like Off Campus, but if you loved when Garrett beat up Hannah’s abuser in the finale, you might enjoy this. 

How to Get Away with Murder, Disney+

Less of a campus show, but we love it, so How to Get Away with Murder is going on the list! What are you going to do? Sue us? We took Professor Keating’s class… so. 

Fresh Meat, 10 Play

Everything else on this list focuses on the American college experience, but in Australia, it’s much closer to the English style of University. Fresh Meat, a cult classic that nails cringe the way our favourite UK comedies do, is exactly that. From the creators of Peep Show—and one of the creators of Succession—you’ll be laughing to the point of crying if you have any tolerance for awkwardness. 

Undeclared

If you’ve watched Freaks and Geeks and wanted more, Undeclared is for you. Created by Judd Apatow, it’s a coming-of-age comedy that laid the groundwork for movies like Superbad and Knocked Up, so if you don’t like those movies, maybe give it a skip. If you do though, it has an almost unrecognisable young Charlie Hunnam and an always funny Seth Rogen in the cast.
