The 'Slip Bob' is the slinky '90s cut that Margot Robbie has put back on our radar

Basically a bias cut for your hair.

We're still not done revisiting style and beauty inspiration from the ‘90s. If it’s not Carolyn Bessette's bootcut jeans, it's the slinky Slip Bob that Margot Robbie just put back on our radar, after debuting a new bob cut while shopping in Paris.

The actress was spotted leaving the Ritz Hotel in a silky matching butter yellow Dôen cami and mini skirt which she paired with her new collarbone-length bob.

We've seen the style before on the supers – both Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell were fans – but this specific bob shape takes its inspo from another '90s staple, as Dale Herne, stylist at Hershesons Fitzrovia points out

What is the Slip Bob?

Essentially an elongated, airy bob, cut to encourage movement, Dale explains “the slip bob just kisses the shoulders, with some invisible layers. There’s no heavy line so it feels very soft but paired with some precision. It gives it that slightly sexy feel but still looks luxurious and elegant, thanks to the flick through the ends. It’s understated, which is exactly what makes it feel so modern.”

Why choose the Slip Bob?

The cut is heavy on nineties nostalgia and the decade's simple styling. It taps into the “understated glamour of the late '90s,” and “takes its cue from the effortless elegance of a satin slip dress: sleek, fluid and timeless," Dale explains. "Think of the iconic minimalist bobs seen on the supermodels of this era, reimagined for today by Margot Robbie in Paris last week,” he adds.

It majors on simplicity, executed beautifully. “Just like a slip dress, the cut is deceptively simple. It’s all about clean lines, glossy shine and fluid movement,” says Dale. “Rather than relying on layers or beachy texture, the Slip Bob lets the shape do the talking, with a gentle outward bend through the ends that gives it effortless swing.”

How to style the Slip Bob?

As for how do style it, add a lightweight styling cream, like Hershesons Almost Everything Cream, through hair for smoothness and shine. Blow-dry hair straight, keeping a little bit of volume at the roots, then use a straightener, gliding and rotating your wrist outward, to softly flick the ends.
