20 celebrity haircuts to inspire your next chop

Need a change? We’ve got you covered.

With every approaching hair appointment always comes the question, ‘what should I ask for?’ Some take a rinse and repeat approach, perfecting a signature style over years-worth of visits, others are just in it for the maintenance trim, but so many go into every interaction with a stylist with the hopes of coming out of it with a new look. But whatever you want out of your next haircut, there are a few things to consider first.

One of them is how much work you’re actually willing to put into your new style, not just when it comes to care and health, but also the frequency of cuts you’ll need to maintain it as well as the at-home styling you’ll need to work into your routine to achieve the exact look and finish you want.

Don’t worry, this is where your hairstylist comes in. They’ll guide you through this process. “Let your hairdresser know how much time you have in the mornings to style your mane,” says Sydney-based hairstylist Anthony Nader, adding that even this one factor will be “a big decider on the desired length and layers around the face for upkeep and endurance.”

As a general rule of thumb, if you have more textured or thick hair and want a smoother, sleeker style, you would typically keep more length and ask for less layers to keep the weight in it. If you have straight, fine hair, you might want to go for a shorter cut to add fullness and shape. But all this to say that there are no rules here — whatever style you want ultimately is the style you’re going to get, and some sort of commitment to styling will mean that you have more versatility when it comes to cuts.

Another important thing to come into your appointment with, Anthony says, is actual examples of what style you want. “Take a few references that you're thinking about just for good measure.” Anthony adds. And chances are that you already have an Instagram saved folder or Pinterest board filled with photos, courtesy of your favourite famous faces and their equally iconic hair. If you haven’t already done this homework, or even if you have but still want a few more to take to your appointment (the more the better!), we’re bringing you some of our favourite celebrity hairstyles to take inspiration from below.

Super Cropped

For those bold and brave enough for a dramatic cut, take inspiration from Gracie Abrams, Iris Law and Jessie Buckley and go for a super cropped style or a more textured pixie. The best part about a shorter style is that the cut does it all — often, there isn’t much more styling required save for some product to enhance texture and manipulate shape.

Long Hair, Short Bangs

This style has been around for a little while now, and we’re still not over it, with Hollywood hairstylings still finding new ways to reinvent the classic. Go for fuller, more deliberate bangs and minimal layering like Mia Goth and Sadie Sink, or longer lengths and subtler fringing like Katseye’s Manon Meret.

The Flippy Lob

There’s the cropped bob and the blunt lob — now, we’re seeing a whole lot of the flippy lob, a fun, slightly more textured take on the similarly clavicle-skimming style that came before it. Look to Hailey Bieber, Madelyn Cline and Margaret Qualley for all the inspiration you could ever need.

Super Long Lengths

Exaggerated lengths are taking over Hollywood, giving equal parts romance, whimsy, and low maintenance. We’re so into Camilla Morrone, Margot Robbie and Amelia Gray’s tumbling waves, and Jennie and Hoyeon Jung’s big bombshell takes on the trend. You can add a few disguised layers here and there, but the aim here is as much length as possible.

Choppy Bangs

If you’ve got a thing for bangs, but looking for a 2026 update, the full yet choppy bang should be your go-to. Take inspiration from Greta Lee and Zendaya’s baby bangs, or for something a little longer, look no further than Alysa Liu’s classic fringing with a wispy twist.
